| Database Administrator Sequel Support is a company providing managed database services to corporations nationwide. We are expanding and require a certified database administrator to join our team. The successful candidate will have achieved: * A formal DBA certification (MCDBA/MCTS) or bachelor's degree with some computer science. * A minimum of 4 years experience as DBA. * In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows, SQL Server architecture, SQL Server performance tuning and experience with TSQL. * Some knowledge of Analysis Services and Reporting Services. * Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. * Attention to detail and commitment to quality work. * Strong communication skills. * The ability to follow process and procedure in accordance with ITIL guidelines. Key deliverables: * Database server setup and configuration, including clustered servers. * Diagnose system performance problems from System Monitor (Perfmon) counters. * Analyse and optimise query plans. * Index design and tuning. * SQL Server Replication (transactional and merge). * Monitor and enforce customer's Security Standard. * Incident investigation and reporting. * Assist developers with database design. * QA and deploy to production in accordance with ITIL guidelines and customer's Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). * Backup/Restore. * Working knowledge of ETL and SSIS. The kind of questions you are likely to be asked in the interview: * Define candidate key, alternate key, composite key. * What is a transaction and what are ACID properties? * Explain Active/Active and Active/Passive cluster configurations. * What are the steps you will take to improve performance of a poor performing query? * What is blocking and how would you troubleshoot it? * What are cursors? What are the disadvantages of cursors? How can you avoid cursors?
